The Retreat is located just north of Mangochi, on the palm fringed southern shore of Lake Malawi. Just a few miles away is Boadzulu Island, the most southern part of Lake Malawi’s National Park and home to many birds, fish and reptiles.

By Air:
The Makokola Retreat has its own airstrip that is also open to private aircrafts. The airstrip’s ICAO code is FWCM

A charter company will offer you regular direct flights from Lilongwe International Airport or Blantyre International Airport to the lakeshore. Flying time is approximately 30 minutes from either airport.

By Road:
The Retreat is well connected to Malawi’s main cities by national tar roads. Our staff will be pleased to organize group transfers to and from The Makokola Retreat. Rental cars can also be arranged at the airports, as well as through the resort.

Malawi is blessed with an exceptional climate. The Retreat enjoys comfortably warm temperatures with Great Rift Valley breezes and relatively low humidity from April to October. The rainy season, from November to March, brings short bursts of rain interspersed with brilliant sunshine, warmer temperatures and higher humidity.

The Retreat enjoys easy access by air. Our airstrip is available to private and commercial traffic.
